GUNNHILDUR OG BRYNHILDUR

Tvíburasysturnar Gunnhildur og Brynhildur Þórðardætur opna sýninguna Prjónaheimur Lúka laugardaginn 19. apríl kl.16 í galleriBOXi á Akureyri. Systurnar skipa listadúóið Lúka Art & Design sem var stofnað haustið 2004 en þær hafa nú verið í samstarfi við Glófa á Akureyri þar sem þær hönnnuðu mynstur fyrir íslensku ullina sem Glófi prjónaði. Hugmyndina að mynstrinu er unnin út frá lakkrískonfekti og lakkrísreimum og eru þær nú búnar að setja upp innsetningu og hanna vörur úr efninu. Systurnar stefna svo á að fara með sýninguna í haust eða næsta vor erlendis á vegum Útflutningsráðs Íslands.

Brynhildur er lærður textíl-og fatahönnuður frá Listaháskóla Íslands og útskrifaðist árið 2004 og útskrifaðist með MSc í tæknilegum textílum og atgervisfatnaði frá University of Leeds, School of Design árið 2006.

Gunnhildur er með BA(HONS) í listasögu og fagurlistum frá Listaháskólanum í Cambridge árið 2003 og MA í listsstjórnun frá sama skóla árið 2006.

Sýningin stendur til sunnudagsins 4. maí og er opin alla laugardaga og sunnudaga frá kl.14-17.

The Knitted World of Lúka

The twinsisters, Gunnhildur and Brynhildur Thordardottir, open their exhibition The Knitted World of Lúka, Saturday 19th of April at 4 pm at galleriBOX in Akureyri. The sisters call themselves the art duo Lúka Art & Design which was established in the autumn of 2004. They have been collaborating with a company called Glófi in Akureyri and they designed a new pattern for the Icelandic wool which Glófi knitted for them. The idea for the pattern was inspired by assorted licorice because they love the taste of it as well as the colours. The fabric is now an installation at the galleriBOX and they have also designed hats, gloves, jumpers and dresses for the fabric. The sisters intend to take the exbitition abroad with the Icelandic Trade Council next autumn or spring.
Brynhildur studied textile and fashion at the Iceland Academy of The Arts and graduated in 2004 and did her MSc in Advanced Textiles and Performance Clothing at Leeds University, School of Design in 2006. Gunnhildur did her BA(HONS) in Fine Art and Art History at the Cambridge School of Arts in 2003 and her MA in Arts Management in 2006.


The exhibition ends on Sunday 4th of May and is open every weekend Saturday and Sunday from 14-17 o’clock.
