Ken Leslie

Sýning í gallerí BOXi, Listagilinu, Akureyri, 6.-12. janúar 2011.
Ken Leslie, sem nú dvelur í gestavinnustofu Gilfélagsins, opnar sýningu á verkum sínum í gallerí BOXi, sal Myndlistarfélagsins á Akureyri, á þrettándanum, fimmtudaginn 6. janúar kl. 17 – 19. Sýningin verður opin til miðvikudagsins 12. janúar, alla daga frá kl. 14 – 18.
Ken, sem fæddur er og uppalinn í New York, býr nú í Vermont í Bandaríkjunum þar sem hann kennir og stundar sína myndlist.
Á sýningunni eru m.a. vatnslitamyndir sem hann málaði þegar hann dvaldi hér á Akureyri sumarið 1999 og svo nú yfir háveturinn, en hann hefur verið hér á landi frá því seinnipartinn í nóvember.
Eftirfarandi er lýsing á verkunum:
In June 1999, while I was in residence at the Gestavinnustofa, I painted Sólstöður à Akureyri, a 24-page circular artist's book that followed the sun, one page per hour, as it circled the full 360º panorama of the city as seen from Akureyrarkirkja. (Please see the attached jpeg.) Since then I have painted similar cycle books around the Arctic in summer and in winter--in Kotzebue Alaska, Iqaluit Canada, Inari Finland, Kjøllefjord Norway and Longyearbyen Svalbard. It is with great pleasure that I have returned to paint the winter version of my Akureyri summer book.
These works are painted in watercolor on folded paper, opening to large 125cm diameter circles. You can see them in the "Arctic Cycles" pages of my website, www.KenLeslie.net , but even better than seeing them on your computer, you can come to the Box Gallery and see the actual works and more. The exhibition opens on 6 January and runs through the 12th. During the exhibition I will be in the gallery working on my Akureyri Winter Cycle. I hope to see you there!
